Child Development

This qualification includes the knowledge and understanding of child development and well-being necessary for working with children in a variety of settings. The Level 1/2 Technical Award in Child Development and Care in the Early Years is designed for learners who want an introduction to child development and care that includes a vocational and project-based element. The qualification will appeal to learners who wish to pursue a career in the early years sector or progress onto further study.

WHY CHOOSE CHILDCARE

This qualification is ideal if you are thinking of working with children between birth and 5 years. You will learn how to look after and support the development of young children.

COURSE CONTENT

There are 9 content areas that students will study:

1.Child development
2.Factors that influence the child’s development
3.Care routines, play and activities to support the child
4.Early years provision
5.Legislation, policies and procedures in the early years
6.Expectations of the early years practitioner
7.Roles and responsibilities within early years setting
8.The importance of observations in early years childcare

SUBJECT UNITS AND ASSESSMENT OUTLINE

Students complete two assessments:

NEA – 50%. Non-exam assessment. This is completed in exam conditions in school, in lesson time. Students have 14 hours to complete it plus 2 hours preparation and research time. 

EA – 50% Examined Assessment. 1 hour 30 minutes external exam in June on all content areas.
