Sport - BTEC

In BTEC Sport you will explore the different types and providers of sport and physical activity and the equipment and technology available for participation. You will also explore the different types of participant and their needs in order to gain an understanding of how to increase participation for others in sport and physical activity and further develop their knowledge and understanding of anatomy and physiology, sports analysis and sports leadership.

WHY CHOOSE SPORT

Through the rich and varied curriculum in KS4 students will learn how to stay fit and healthy and possibly more importantly, why staying fit is essential to enjoying a full and rewarding life.

SUBJECT UNITS AND ASSESSMENT OUTLINE

The BTEC Tech Award in Sport (2022) covers three components over two years:

Component 1: Preparing Participants to Take Part in Sport and Physical Activity. Learners will explore the different types and provision of sport and physical activity available for different types of participants, barriers to participation and ways to overcome these barriers to increase participation in sport and physical activity. They will also research equipment and technological advances in a chosen sport or physical activity and how to prepare our bodies for participation in sport and physical activity (Internally assessed)

Component 2: Taking Part and Improving Other Participants Sporting Performance. Learners will investigate the components of fitness and their effect on performance, take part in practical sport, explore the role of officials in sport and learn to apply methods and sporting drills to improve other participants’ sporting performance. (Internally assessed)

Component 3: Developing Fitness to Improve Other Participants Performance in Sport and Physical Activity requires learners to use theoretical knowledge and understanding of applied anatomy and physiology, movement analysis and physical training so that they can use this knowledge to analyse and evaluate performance and devise informed strategies for improving/optimising their own practical performance. (External examination)
